Hobbywing Competition ESC Lineup

Homologation classification and Blinky implementation across key Xerun platforms.

Model Category Zero-Timing Mechanism Inspection Protocol Tech Scrutineer Notes
Xerun XR10 Justock / Justock G3 Hardware-Locked Physical spec board; no timing menus exist in MCU Visual Model Audit Universally accepted spec controller. Cannot be modified with timing. Flashing Red LED at neutral.
Xerun XR10 Stock Spec Profile-Selectable Parameter 1A: Profile set to 0 (Zero-Timing) LCD Box Profile Audit Connect LCD Program Box: confirm Profile = 0. Red LED blinks at neutral; Green on throttle.
Xerun XR10 Pro / Pro G2 / Pro Elite Profile / Dual-Param Profile 0 or Boost Timing = 0° & Turbo Timing = 0° LCD Box / App Audit Flagship competition ESC. Requires Profile 0 or zeroed Boost and Turbo registers.
Xerun 120A / 60A-SD / Xtreme Stock Dedicated Firmware Requires official non-timing firmware (e.g. v508_No_Timing) USB Link PC Query Legacy competition platform. Must be flashed with certified non-timing stock software to activate Blinky mode.

Hobbywing Parameter Settings Explained

Detailed breakdown of core parameters based on official Hobbywing engineering documentation.

⚙️

1. Running Mode

Forward / Brake: Standard sanctioned racing mode. Reverse is completely locked out so cars cannot back up into race traffic.

Forward / Reverse / Brake: Practice/bashing mode with double-click reverse engagement.

🛑

2. Drag Brake Force & Rate

Drag Brake Force: Brake percentage applied automatically when throttle trigger returns to neutral. Simulates natural rolling resistance (common: 5% to 20%).

Drag Brake Rate: Controls how quickly drag brake ramps up upon releasing throttle.

3. Boost Timing (Must be 0° in Blinky)

Dynamic electronic timing advance introduced progressively across the RPM range before reaching full throttle.

In spec Blinky racing, Boost Timing must be locked to 0°. Any non-zero value activates illegal advance.

🚀

4. Turbo Timing & Delay (0° in Blinky)

Additional electronic timing added only at 100% wide-open throttle (WOT), typically used on long straights.

Turbo Delay: Time interval at 100% throttle before Turbo engages. In Blinky mode, Turbo Timing must be 0°.

📈

5. Punch & Softening Control

Punch Control: Limits current ramp rate during initial acceleration from standstill or slow corners to prevent wheelspin.

Softening: Fine-tunes throttle response at bottom end to smooth out aggressive modified motors.

🛡️

6. Cutoff & Thermal Protection

Low Voltage Cut-off: Detects battery voltage under load and cuts or limits power to prevent LiPo over-discharge damage (typically 3.2V to 3.4V per cell).

ESC/Motor Thermal Cut: Shuts down drive if MOSFET temperature exceeds safe limits (e.g. 105°C / 221°F).
